It is owned by the Kaduna State Government (KDSG) and is being managed by Kaduna Markets Development and Management Company (KMDMC). The market was established in 1975 and has more than 6,500 shops of various sizes and usage; from special stores and cold rooms to restaurants and lock up shops.
Sheikh Abubakar Mahmoud Gumi Market is located at the heart of the central business district of Kaduna and is bordered by Ibrahim Tawio Road, Lagos Street, Broadcasting Road and Yakubu Gowon Way.
